CHANGE HAS A FEMALE FACE

The images we’ve seen from the 1970’s Women’s Movement only tell part of the story. We know what the largest marches looked like and who the national leaders were. But the small protests and quiet gatherings that were at the heart of the fight for gender equality have rarely been seen. I began capturing the struggle for women’s rights in 1969. I was 21, a fine arts photography major and an activist in the fight to end sexism. These largely unseen images, as well as hundreds of original feminist publications, have been preserved for 50 years. They provide an intimate view of second-wave feminism, one that speaks to the present moment.
